The electricity sector regulatory agency (ARSEL) was established by law N02011 / 022 of December 14, 2011 (repeals all the provisions of law N098 / 022 OF DECEMBER 24, 1998), governing the electricity sector. electricity in Cameroon.

ARSEL ensures the regulation, control and monitoring of the activities of operators and operators in the electricity sector, within the framework of the policy defined by the Government (Article 72 of Law N02011 / 022 of December 14, 2011) . It is particularly responsible for:

- Ensure compliance with the laws and regulations applicable to the electricity sector, as well as concession, license, authorization and any other form of contract adopted in this context;

- To ensure that network access is carried out under objective, transparent and non-discriminatory conditions;

- To look after the interests of consumers and to ensure the protection of their rights with regard to the price, supply and quality of electrical energy;

- To guarantee healthy and fair competition in the electricity sector;

- To implement, monitor and control the tariff system established in accordance with the methods and procedures set by the Administration in charge of electricity;

- To investigate requests for licenses and concessions;

- Arbitrate disputes between operators in the electricity sector upon referral from the parties;

- To contribute to the exercise of any public interest mission entrusted to it by the government on behalf of the State in the electricity sector.
